Home Economics

7/24/19– Future Plans

I’ve been thinking about ways that I can help my people and something I keep coming back to is being a bigger part of my community. This is a little hard for me since I tend to be introverted. In a party I’m the really quiet one who listens to everything and hardly says anything unless I’m having a one on one conversation. I’m trying to get better at this, but it’s still a work in progress. It takes a lot of effort for me to be outgoing and lead things, so I generally don’t do it, but women play a vital role in the health and well-being of the community as a whole.

Since I’m not going to have children of my own, my husband and I both thought it would probably be a good idea for me to work with children in some capacity. I told him I had thought of teaching home economics and he thought that was a brilliant idea. I haven’t checked with the local schools yet but I do have a friend who is homeschooling and she also loved the idea and mentioned a few things that would be great for her daughter to learn that neither her or her husband were really equipped to teach.

So I’ve been trying to think of some different ideas that I’d like to do, there are so many facets of home ec, and I know that when I graduated high school I did not feel like I was equipped and prepared to live on my own. I strongly believe we need to prepare our young people much more thoroughly than we have, and hopefully in the coming years I can help be part of that change.
